Former MP Leroy de Weever in court charged with theft
POSTED: 10/13/15 2:39 PMSt. Maarten – Former Member of Parliament Petrus Leroy de Weever appears in court Wednesday to face charges of theft. On January 11, 2014, De Weever had an encounter with the embattled blogger Judith Roumou on Front Street.
On that occasion, the parliamentarian took away the tablet Roumou carried.
Prosecutor Nanouk Lemmers confirmed yesterday that the charges against De Weever are theft. Roumou claimed at the time that he had ill-treated her as well, but the prosecutor’s office has not brought these charges against the former politician.
A week after De Weever has his day in court, Roumou will stand before the judge, accused of insulting attorney Geert Hatzmann and a police officer. On a yet to be determined date, Roumou will also have to stand trial on charges of extortion, stalking, threats, insults and defamation.
