St. Maarten – The Ombudsman of St. Maarten, Dr. Nilda Arduin, was presented with one of the most prestigious international social awards, the “Obelisk of Excellence by the Women of Great Esteem Organization.” The award was presented by the founder of the organization Reverend Sylveta Hamilton Gonzalez, who also read a citation sent by the president of the Brooklyn Borough in New York.
Reverend Hamilton Gonzalez in presenting the award, noted that Prime Minister Sarah Wescot-Williams, who received the award some ten years ago, has someone “walking in her footsteps” who thought that they had to get there too. “I think this is a great tribute to the nation that you have such women of this caliber such as the President of the Parliament of St.Maarten Drs. Gracita Arrindell and Dr. Arduin.”
In her response, Dr. Arduin said that when she was nominated last year to be a recipient she thought that it was a great honor and mentioned that she was unable to attend because of other commitments at that time and as a result had to decline. “I felt quite honored this year when I was again nominated.”
She further said that “it was a humbling experience” and expressed her appreciation to the Prime Minister and the St. Maarten community for embracing her by allowing her to be productive in contributing to the community. She also expressed her appreciation to her family for the support and the “TLC” when she needed it. She paid tribute to her late husband Edgar Lynch for the role that he played in her life.
She asked that her regards be given to the president of the Brooklyn Borough for the citation that was presented to her and mentioned that she was also grateful for the opportunity to be among the women of New York when she attended the ceremonies.
Prime Minister Sarah Wescott-Williams also in addressing the audience reminisced on her experience when she received this prestigious award some ten years ago and expressed her gratitude to Reverend Hamilton Gonzalez for visiting St. Maarten and presenting the award to Dr. Arduin.
