Dorcas Foundation receives big donation for upgrading kitchen

POSTED: 09/11/13 3:14 PM

St. Maarten – Members of the Dorcas Foundation established in 2002 to formalize the community service activities of the Seventh Day Adventist Community in Cole Bay, received a donation of 73.973,83 guilders from the Cooperating Foundations of the Dutch Caribbean for a much needed improvement of their soup kitchen.
Every weekend well over 175 underprivileged persons in the Cole Bay and Cay district are enjoying hot healthy meals, prepared by the volunteers of the Foundation. Besides that, about 50 loaves of bread are being distributed regularly amongst those that need it.

The money will be used to comply with the Commodities Act of the Health Department by purchasing hygienic prep tables, stainless steel shelves and equipment to keep the food at the right temperature, epoxy cutting boards, a proper exhaust system and a bread oven. PDG will deliver the equipment and has agreed to install it for free.

With the upgraded kitchen the Dorcas Foundation can start to expand their soup kitchen service from Sundays to more days per week and intensify their bread project. They will also restart their classes on how to cook healthy meals on a budget.

Cooperating Foundations of the Dutch Caribbean would like to wish the energetic volunteers of the Dorcas Foundation much success with their kitchen improvements and future expansions of their activities.
Foundations that would like to apply for funding from Cooperating Foundations are advised to call 5860808 or email [email protected] for an appointment.
