St. Maarten – Judge Koen Luijks has stepped down per January 1 as the chairman of the Supervisory Committee for the Pointe Blanche Prison and House of Detention. Judge Mauritz de Kort, who starts per January 1 as the new judge for criminal cases in St. Maarten as the successor of Koos van de Ven, has been appointed to replace Luijks as chairman. His mandate ends on October 10, 2016.
Justice Minister Dennis Richardson has published the decision in the National Gazette. The publication includes appreciation for the work Judge Luijks has done as the committee’s chairman.
