St. Maarten – The Beyond Writing Foundation (BWF) has finalized its pilot project on storytelling and Reading. The project started in August and ended on October 31. While the program ran storytellers and readers visited the medical center twice a week and the community centers once a month to entertain children with stories and narratives.
“‘We have done an evaluation of the project and it resulted to be a huge success. Children at the Sint Maarten Medical Centre, at the Dutch Quarter and the St. Peters Community Centers were very happy and also the managements of those entities are happy with the activities which the project has brought. Also the Sint Martin home was visited in October, where story-readers could read newspapers for the elderly.
“The Kids Night Out- as a marking end of the project, whereby a variety of storytelling, reading, poem declamations, dancing, singing and a play were showcased by many talented children of our society- was called a great hit,” President of the BWF drs L.R. Morales states in a press release.
The rounding off of the project was celebrated on Friday at the library. All storytellers and readers and the Beyond Writing Foundation extends thanks to all the children who participated, as well as to their partners and sponsors like the Obersi Group, the Samenwerkende Fondson, Cost U less, the Lions, The VNP and Lloyd Richardsson, The Today and The Daily Herald News Papers “for their consistent support on this project.”
