Project ‘Touristic Development Waaigat’ Starts
POSTED: 09/25/14 1:26 PMWILLEMSTAD – Curaçao Ports Authority (CPA) begins with the ‘Touristic development Waaigat’ project. The implementation of the project is possible with the support of the Ministry of Economic Development and the guidance of the Fundashon Desaroyo Waaigat (Waaigat Development Foundation).
Improving water quality is a high priority. According to CPA spokeswoman Donna van der Dijs, the project has a positive impact on the economy of Curaçao.
“Investments associated with the work, make sure that more local people and tourists will visit the Waaigat area.”
The Waaigat has an insufficient flow of natural seawater, which is why there is an unpleasant odor and the water has a brownish color. The improvement of water quality has, therefore, a high priority, according to CPA.
The organization has announced that they will replace the ground to the edge of the Waaigat as soon as possible. Every effort is made to find a solution to the flow of natural water in the basin.
Once the water quality has improved, the project continues with the construction of jetties for boats and yachts. As input for the development of the Waaigat into a marina harbor, the CPA will use plans developed by the Fundashon Desaroyo Waaigat (2010) and the Waaigat Masterplan (2007).
