Fire guts four apartments in St. Peter’s

St. Maarten – A large fire gutted at least four apartments in a building complex in St. Peter’s Saturday. Both the fire department and police were dispatched to the area to contain the blaze and ensure the safety of residents. The fire broke out above Marigot Hill Road.

While the exact cause of the fire, the extent of the damage, and how many families were displaced is yet to be ascertained, according to an eye witness, the fire was first noticed by a young man around 8 am.

However, while waiting for the fire trucks to arrive, a group of men bravely tried their best under the circumstances to prevent the blaze from spreading by which time a large group had gathered outside.

On the arrival of the police, the firefighters were already busy putting out the fire and the situation was under control. No one was injured during the fire, police said, and the victims of this fire were taken care of by friends and family. The cause of the fire was possibly an electrical overload, police said.
