St. Maarten – The Public Prosecutor’s Office (PPO) requested an extension on the detention period of a local sports coach, E.Y. (born 1965), who is charged with the sexual abuse and rape of minor boys. The prosecution is calling on witnesses to come forward. E.Y. was arrested last week Wednesday, and the following Friday the judge of instruction decided that the extension was lawful, so E.Y. currently remains in pre-trial detention, the PPO said in a press statement yesterday.
According to the PPO, the police investigation team received indications that E.Y. possibly abused several victims. If you have specific information for the investigation team, please visit the Public Prosecutors Office, they asked. The PPO said it will ensure that your information will be handled carefully and will arrange for a vice detective from the Netherlands specialized in such cases to contact you.
If you are unsure whether you want to share your information with the public prosecutor, please consult the Court of Guardianship. The Court of Guardianship, as a central point for child abuse, can further advise in the reporting process and can assist you if necessary.
