St. Maarten – Prime Minister Sarah Wescot-Williams organizes a sports event on the occasion of International Women’s Day this Saturday. The day will begin bright and early at 5 a.m. with a walkathon from the Government Administration Building at Clem Labega Square to the Raoul Illidge Sports Complex in Cay Hill.
At 6.30 a.m., there is a yoga class at the sports complex, followed by the traditional after-walkathon breakfast with bush tea and Johnny cake.
The official opening of the sports day is scheduled for 8 a.m.. there is a soccer penalty shootout, basketball, aerobics, track and field and a body building show. While it is International Women’s Day, it is also a family event, the PM said yesterday, adding that fathers and children are also welcome.
The program will close with a mini zumbathon, whereby a handful of instructor will rotate to give the classes.
“The slogan for the day is Inspiring change. “The only constant in life is change,” Wescot-Williams said yesterday. Inspiring change is an ongoing commitment. Everybody is able to inspire others – like older women to a younger generation. Let us be that inspiration every day of the year.”
