POSTED: 03/3/14 2:36 PM

St. Maarten – On Saturday night 3 prisoners escaped from the Point Blanche prison, the public prosecutor’s office said in a press release yesterday. The prisoners are L.T.A (26 years old), O.S.N. (23 years old) and Nashon Francis, who was shot dead by police. Francis was recently sentenced to 7 years for the attempted murder of notorious prison inmate Devon Otto. He and an accomplice accosted Otto with a machete, severely wounding the man. Otto had to be taken to hospital as a result of his wounds.

After a short and thorough manhunt by KPSM police force, the 3 were found in Philipsburg. During the arrest shots were fired by the police and Francis was hit. He died shortly after. An unidentified woman was also arrested for her help with the escape.

The landsrecherche is appointed by the public prosecutor’s office to conduct an investigation into both the escape and the death of Francis.

The public prosecutor’s office said that no further information can be disclosed at this time regarding the ongoing investigation.
