Editorial: No Doubts (that investigation is imminent of Maria Buncamper – Molanus and Claudius)
POSTED: 01/20/14 1:09 PMThere can be no more doubts in the minds of Maria Buncamper – Molanus and her husband Claudius Buncamper – and the public for that matter – about whether they will be investigated or not for criminal wrongdoing. The Prosecutor’s Office has confirmed that they will begin looking into possible money laundering in the now infamous transaction between the Buncampers and a bogus corporation called Eco-Green NV, established only days before $1.6 million was transferred to it, with a former Public Works employee as its managing director.
The investigation should send a signal that the justice system on St. Maarten does take alleged breaches in the public trust by politicians very seriously. If St. Maarten is to restore its credibility in the Kingdom as a mature and responsible country, such a move is a step in that direction.
It also sends a signal to any public official that egregious abuse of public office will not be tolerated. And that’s good for everyone.
