Powerplay: the most powerful woman in St. Maarten, Prime Minister Sarah Wescot-Williams – shakes hands with the most powerful woman in the Netherlands – Public Health Minister Edith Schippers.
St. Maarten – The Dutch feminist monthly magazine Opzij places Prime Minister Sarah Wescot-Williams in the top ten of most powerful women in the Kingdom. During a gala-evening in Amsterdam’s City Theater on Tuesday the magazine presented Public Health Minister Edith Schippers as the most powerful woman in the Netherlands. Wescot-Williams is ranked 8.
Opzij Editor-in-Chief Margriet van der Linden said that Wescot-Williams had been recognized for her contribution in the field of politics in the Kingdom. “Her 40 years of service for the development of St. Maarten alone is a most powerful accomplishment. St. Maarten can be proud of this nomination. Minister Wescot-Williams has demonstrated that she is a strong, powerful, and phenomenal woman in her own right.”
Wim Horema Adema and Hedy d’Ancona founded Opzij in November 1972 as a radical feminist magazine.
