Go-fast crew escapes Coast Guard

St. Maarten –  The Coast Guard and the French customs and gendarmerie intercepted this week a suspect go-fast in the coastal waters of French Saint Martin. A Coast Guard patrol plane spotted the go-fast whereupon the chase was on.

The station vessel Zr. Ms. Holland positioned itself for an interception with its Fast Raiding Interception and Special Forces Craft (frisc), a super-fast motorboat with a top speed of 83 kilometers per hour. The vessel is equipped with two MAG machineguns.

After a long chase, the suspect go-fast fled through the territorial waters of Anguilla to the French part of Saint Martin. There the Coast Guard super rhib (rigid-hulled inflatable boat) was waiting. After a brief inter-action on the water, the go-fast escaped into Simpson Bay. A few minutes later it was found empty by the frisc-crew. The go-fast crew escaped in a waiting car.

The crews of the super rhib and the frisc provided assistance at the scene at the request of the French customs and gendarmerie. The French authorities are investigating the case.
