St. Maarten – The Dutch are interested in participating in the development of the St. Maarten Medical Centre (SMMC), however, they need to hear first what St. Maarten’s objectives are for the future of the facility, says President of Parliament, drs. Rodolphe Samuel who was on a working visit to the Netherlands.

During his visit Samuel met with the parliament’s Secretary General Tim De Lange, and the chairlady of the Kingdom Relations Committee Brigitte van der Burg.

Samuel and Van der Burg discussed a number of pending issues such as the inter-parliamentary Ipko meeting, energy issues, education, inter-island transportation, double taxation and health care.

Samuel’s meeting with De Lange concerned the administration of the parliamentary secretariat particularly with regard to the recording of parliamentary sessions and the archiving of documentation.

Samuel described both meetings as very informative. He also attended an official farewell reception that was held in the honour of the out-going President of the Parliament Gerdi Verbeet. The reception was also for those members of parliament who won’t be returning in the new parliament.

Anouchka van Miltenburg was elected as the parliament’s new president last week.
