St. Maarten – Suspect M.K.J confessed yesterday to his involvement in the violent murders of Michael and Thelma King on September 21 in Cupecoy, the prosecutor’s office stated in a press release issued yesterday morning. K. also confessed to the robbery at the Happy Star restaurant on Cannegieter Street on Thursday September 20. The Judge of Instruction yesterday ordered the suspect’s pre-trial detention for another 8 days.
The prosecutor’s office prolonged the custody of the second suspect, 17-year old J.C.M. with eight days yesterday. Today the teenager will appear before the Judge of Instruction for an evaluation of the prosecutor’s decision.
Both suspects are under “full restrictions,” the prosecutor’s press release stated. This means that the suspects are only allowed to have contact with their attorneys.
In the interest of the investigation, the prosecutor’s office declined to provide further information to the media about the case.
