St. Maarten – Prime Minister Sarah Wescot-Williams applauded the opening of the Charlotte Brookson Academy of the Performing Arts yesterday. She commended and congratulated the Ujima Foundation on the opening: “I am extremely happy at the opening of the Charlotte Brookson Academy and would like to extend heartfelt congratulations to the Ujima Foundation, the University of St. Maarten and the Ministry of Education in what is our first school dedicated to the performing arts here on St. Maarten. This is an important step for our young country as we now have the opportunity to reinforce our society by having a school that focuses on theatre, arts, health and physical education. This will strengthen our community and thus also our country and I would sincerely like to wish the students, teachers and parents the best of luck and success.”
In June the prime minister held a meeting with the board of the Charlotte Brookson Academy. The main goal of the school is to offer students a global experience of learning. It will target children’s intellectual, cognitive, creative, physical and emotional development while preparing them to reach their highest potential as scholars, artists, leaders, and global citizens. Classes for the academy will be held on the premises of the University of St. Maarten.
