TelEm Group upgrading bandwidth capacity

St. Maarten – TelEm Group is upgrading bandwidth capacity to keep up with consumer demands for faster and more efficient broadband-related services. The company already has sufficient capacity from St. Maarten to Puerto Rico through the SMPR-1 – SMITCOMS’ undersea sub-marine fiber optic cable, however, due to an increase in demand for internet services, Telem Group acquired 300Mbps additional capacity enabling faster internet communications to and from St. Maarten. The additional capacity comes from the undersea cable section that stretches from Puerto Rico to Miami, USA.

“Customers with DSL service, who may have experienced inconsistent service in the peak consumption hours will experience a more stable performance as a result of the upgrade,” TelEm Group Chief Technical officer (CTO) Eldert Louisa said.

The capacity upgrade is part of TelEm Group’s ongoing strategy to keep pace with customer demand for bandwidth and bandwidth-related services by matching this demand with capacity upgrades.

“Our engineers and technicians are now making all the necessary adjustments to the Internet Capacity Infrastructure to facilitate the use of additional bandwidth on the DSL network and we will announce when the upgrade is fully in place,” Louisa said.
