St. Maarten – Free to be me is the name of this year’s summer musical presented by the Philipsburg Jubilee Library and Thinkstage Entertainment Ltd, following last year’s successful musical Camp Rock. The production teaches kids how to deal with peer pressure as well as how to support each other in times like those.
The PJL organized this year’s audition and 20 very talented children from different schools between the ages of 7 and 18 were chosen to be part of the musical. The play is directed and written by Michelle Roach from Trinidad. Ilinita“Cutie“Johnson (vocal coach), Mariska Carthy (choreography), Antoinette Joseph (stage manager trainee) and Kara Arnold (musical supervisor and manager) also form part of the production team.
The musical will take place on August 10 and 11 at the Philipsburg Community and Cultural Center. The cast is working hard, rehearsing every day at the library for several hours at a time. The children are very dedicated to the musical, spending their summer practicing lines, rehearsing dance and training vocals to deliver a tremendous show in August. The library urges everybody to come out to enjoy the local talent we have on St. Maarten.
