GREAT BAY – St. Maarten’s award winning Iron Chef Dino Jagtiani of the famed Temptation and Rare restaurants will be “auctioned for charity” at the annual Island Gems Charity Foundation Dinner at Captain Oliver’s restaurant on Saturday, April 14 from 7:30 p.m. The Gems ladies wanted an exotic silent auction item for this year’s dinner and the idea of auctioning a chef quickly found favour among the group. Auctions, after all, were also part of the Wild, Wild West era – the theme of the costume dinner event.
Chef Dino, the country’s first ever graduate from the Culinary Institute of America (CIA), was asked to be part of the unique approach for the silent auction. He is no stranger to breaking new ground and got onboard with the charity event in spite his busy schedule of running his two Cupecoy based restaurants.
The winner of “A night with Chef Dino” at the silent auction will be entitled to dinner for four to six people prepared from scratch by Chef Dino at their home. The dinner, which will be at least three courses, will be crafted from the basic ingredients found in every home (olive oil, salt, pepper etc) and with premium cuts of meat and vegetables supplied by Merchants Market.
The chef package has been tagged with the price of US $1,500. The minimum bidding price will be revealed at the dinner.
Tickets for the buffet style dinner with a spread for vegetarians are priced at $125 and are available from Island Gems members. Dress code is “Old West Attire” and it’s the law, the Island Gems ladies said. The funds from the dinner, the silent auction and “A night with Chef Dino” will be used by the Gems throughout the year to aid various charities on both sides of the island.
