RBC issues skimming warning

WILLEMSTAD- RBC Royal Bank in Curacao (former RBTT) advised customers on Monday to carefully check their bank statements since people who used ATMs belonging to other banks to conduct RBTT transactions may have been exposed to skimming activities.

“In cases of confirmed fraud, our priority is to minimize the impact on our clients who have been victimized through no fault of their own”, the bank said over the weekend.

The bank said that to date it had not received any report of tampering or skimming at any RBC/RBTT ATMS located in Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao, Saba and St.Maarten. However as a precautionary measure, the bank had requested customers use only its ATMS to deposit or withdraw cash.
“Preventing fraud is a mutual responsibility and our goal is to educate our clients to help them understand how they can protect themselves. Clients can protect themselves by being aware of their environment. If they feel uncomfortable for any reason, they should leave and not use the ATM.  If they notice anything out of the ordinary, they should report the situation to the police or their branch,” the bank suggested.
