Foundations sign MOU for service to elderly and disabled

St. Maarten – The St. Maarten Housing Development Foundation and the Helping Hands Foundation signed a Memorandum of Understanding Wednesday for the latter entity to provide assistance to over 40 elderly residents in homes managed by the housing foundation. Helping Hands Foundation provides elderly people with transportation for medical purposes, recreation, bill payments, groceries and other tasks.
Helping Hands has concretely committed to enhancing the mobility of the housing foundation’s elderly and disabled clients, increase their opportunity to attend activities with other elderly, reduce the cost of transport for the two target groups, provide opportunities for better health care for the two target groups and helping both groups become more independent in moving around. The housing foundation has committed to morally supporting the Helping Hand Foundation’s efforts, promoting the foundation to its clients, providing sponsorship for clients in “dire need of transportation” and doing quarterly evaluations of the service that the two target groups receive.
The expansion of service to people in homes managed by the housing foundation is supported by the Antillean Co-Financing Agency (AMFO). The current grant will also be used to cover the events to honor the country’s elderly that are held as part of the foundation’s 15th anniversary.
