Wescot-Williams and Gumbs salute Navy League CouncilPOSTED: 12/21/11 9:53 AM
St. Maarten – Both Prime Minister Sarah Wescot-Williams and President of the Collectivite of St. Martin Frantz Gumbs thanked the St. Maarten/St. Martin Navy League Council for their work in the community at the body’s annual Christmas dinner at Peg Leg Pub Restaurant and Steakhouse this past weekend. In 2011 the council carried out a number of projects, which include contributions to the I-Can Foundation, several joint projects with Rotary that were coordinated by board member Louis Wever, and contributions to a mother and her three children whose home was recently fire damaged.
Wescot-Williams praised the Navy League members for their work in St. Maarten “over the years”; while Gumbs said he would welcome more Navy League participation on the French Side in the future.
The St. Maarten/St. Martin Navy League was established in 1994 to work with the naval services of all countries and to contribute to the improvement and wellbeing of the island in general.
