St. Maarten Cable TV launches Space

GREAT BAY – St. Maarten Cable TV launched added a new channel to its line-up on Thursday. Space, which will be on channel 58 on the St. Maarten Cable TV line up, has been dubbed a new attraction that comes ahead of the spring launch of digital programming. It is an all-English channel that was recently launched in the region by Turner Latin America and will allow people to see live NBA basketball games on Thursday nights, eight of the play-off games (depending on the abbreviated NBA season), all of the Western Conference finals and the NBA All-Star Game. Space also has some of Turner’s popular and widely acclaimed original series, such as Closer and Southland, as well as many popular feature movies.

“Earlier in the year we were required to change the channel line-up in order for our cable TV system to be in compliance with regional programming requirements. As a result, some popular programming and sports channels were replaced with international programming. As promised, we are doing everything in our power to introduce new channels as they become legally available in the Caribbean,” Managing Director of St. Maarten Cable TV Beulah Jonis stated in a press release.

The major initiatives planned for the first quarter of 2012 include providing digital cable service and revamping the existing programming line-up for the system. Digital service will provide improved picture quality, a digital interactive guide, better sound and an overall enhanced viewing experience.

“We are looking forward to expanding the services offered to citizens of St. Maarten. Customers have been requesting upgrades for years, and we are very anxious to begin rolling them out,” Jonis concluded.
