Today’s Editorial: Off to the races

The Heineken Regatta really kicks into high gear today, bringing with it a weekend of sailing, parties and drinking. The event has clearly established its benefits and the call by Minister Franklin Meyers for the community to support the event is spot on. After all this is a major international event that we get for free.
While we endorse the party atmosphere we urge our country men to remember that they should be responsible during the course of the event. We realize that the drinks will flow freely while people party, and so we suggest that designated drivers should be on speed dial or better yet right next to those who plan to drink. The taxi drivers are also surely standing by to move people around.
We also urge people as much as possible to car pool during this Regatta to make sure that traffic continues to flow freely. The fewer cars on the road, the less likely that there‘ll be long waits as people move from place to place. Again public transport is highly advisable in this period. If you choose to take your own car, leave in enough time to make your trip, especially if you’re heading to the airport, and also be ready to be patient if it gets slow on the roads.
It’s Regatta time so let’s party hard and responsibly.

HOW WILL ALL THIS PARTYING BE AFFECTED WHEN THOUSANDS OF ATTENDEES ARE NOT GOING TO BE ABLE TO STAY AT THE PELICAN REORT. tHE LARGEST RESORT ON THE ISLAND IS CLOSED AND NO ONE IN THE GOVERNMENT SEEMS TO THINK IT IS IMPORTANT ENOUGH TO GET SERIOUSLY INVOLVED.
