St. Maarten – The St. Maarten United Multipurpose Educational Foundation SUMEF concluded a series of training sessions for teachers employed at the private non government subsidized schools under its umbrella.
The training programs started in 2009 and were funded by the Dutch Cees Pot Foundation. Two training sessions were conducted in 2009 and two in 2010; the final session was held last Thursday and Friday at the Starlight Educational Centre in St. Peters.
Before the training started the instructor of the final module, Lian Staal visited Education Minister Rhoda Arrindell on Wednesday, accompanied by Marge Solloman and Carmen Hodge of the SUMEF.
The Minister of Education had a good discussion with her guests. To mark the completion of the training, a ceremony will be held where all the participants with an attendance of 3 sessions or more, will receive a certificate from the instructor.
With this training the teachers learned skills that enable them to teach children in multi-level grouping and also different approaches and learning styles with hands-on material pertaining to the subject.
The upgrading of the teachers took place with instructors from the APS (Academic Pedagogical Centre) in Holland.
